Dashboard Layout, TV Mode and Focus Project

Overview

The Dashboards tab under Analytics shows a dashboard for a role, such as CIO, QA Lead or Tester. Each dashboard is a set of widgets. You can now shape it to the way you work:

• Make each widget small, medium or large, and drag widgets into the order you want.
• Hide the widgets you don't need and add ones that aren't shown by default.
• On dashboards that summarize several projects, pick a Focus Project to narrow every widget to one project.
• Choose from more time ranges, including 14 Days.
• Every toolbar button works: Customize, Share, Schedule, Embed and TV Mode.

Your layout is saved to your account, per dashboard, so it's the same on any computer you sign in from.

Key concepts

Before you begin

• Your licence must include Persona Dashboards (Trial or Enterprise). Without it, the tab shows Dashboards 🔒.
• Open Analytics, then the Dashboards tab, and choose the persona you want.
• Some dashboards need a project selected before they show data.

Step 1 — Set the time range and project

The toolbar at the top of the dashboard holds the filters.

1. In Time Range:, choose 7 Days, 14 Days, 30 Days, 90 Days or 1 Year. Every widget uses the range you pick.
2. Choose the project:
   • On single-project dashboards, the control reads Project:. Pick a project from Select a project....
   • On dashboards that summarize several projects (CIO, CTO, Head of Development, DevOps / SRE, Release Manager and QA Lead), it reads Focus Project:. Leave it on All Projects for the portfolio view, or choose one project to narrow every widget to it.

Note: The time range you pick is the window the numbers cover. 14 Days means the last 14 days, not the nearest longer range.

Step 2 — Open Customize Dashboard

1. Click Customize in the toolbar. The Customize Dashboard panel opens with the note Drag to reorder, toggle visibility, resize widgets.
2. Each widget is listed with its name, a short description, a drag handle, size buttons, a configure button and a show/hide button.

Step 3 — Resize widgets

Click S, M or L on a widget's row.

Widgets flow into rows, so three S widgets, or one M and one S, sit side by side on a wide screen.

Tip: Out of the box every default widget is L, which keeps the familiar one-per-row layout. Shrink the widgets you want to see side by side.

Step 4 — Rearrange widgets

1. Grab a widget by its drag handle (hover shows Drag to reorder).
2. Drag it up or down the list and drop it where you want it.

The dashboard shows widgets in the order of this list, left to right and top to bottom.

Step 5 — Hide, show, add and remove widgets

• Hide or show: click the eye icon on a row (Click to hide / Click to show). Hidden widgets stay in the list, greyed out, so you can bring them back.
• Add: click Add Widget (N available) at the bottom of the list and choose a widget. It's added to the end of the list. When there is nothing left to add, the list says All widgets have been added.
• Remove: widgets you added have a remove button (Remove widget). A persona's default widgets can only be hidden.

Every widget a persona offers can be shown, hidden, sized and moved. The Add Widget list also offers widgets that aren't a default for this persona.

Step 6 — Configure a widget's data

Some widgets can be tailored.

1. Click the gear icon (Configure widget data & chart type) on a widget's row. The Configure Widget panel opens.
2. Set Chart Type, Data Fields and Group By (for example Environment, Schedule, Test Run Pack or Executed By).
3. Optionally set Sort By, Order (Descending or Ascending) and Max Results.
4. Click Apply, or Reset to Default to undo your changes to this widget.

Step 7 — Save or reset the layout

• Click Save Layout to keep your changes. They're saved for this persona in your account.
• Click Cancel to close without saving.
• Click Reset to Defaults to return this persona to its original widgets, sizes and order.

Step 8 — Use the other toolbar buttons

TV Mode

1. Click TV Mode.
2. Under Dashboards to rotate through, tick the personas to show.
3. Under Projects to include, tick projects, or leave them all unticked to include every project.
4. Set Rotation Interval (30 seconds to 5 minutes), Theme and Time Range.
5. Click Start TV Mode.

While it runs, press Space to pause or resume and the arrow keys to move between dashboards. An Exit TV Mode button is always shown in the top bar.

Scheduled reports: what to expect

• Scheduled reports are sent automatically at the time you set, in the timezone you choose on the form. 08:00 America/New_York is sent at 08:00 New York time.
• Send Now only reports success when the email was actually sent. If your workspace has no active email profile, you get an error asking you to configure one, and the report is not marked as sent.
• Alert rules are checked automatically in the background, not only when you click Test.

Troubleshooting

Best practices

• Put the widgets you check daily at the top and make them S or M, so more fit on one screen.
• Hide rather than remove: hidden widgets are one click away when you need them again.
• For portfolio reviews, leave Focus Project on All Projects. For a project stand-up, pick the project.
• For a wall display, use the Dark (recommended for TV) theme and a rotation of one or two minutes.

FAQ

Does my layout affect other users? No. Layouts are saved to your own account.

Do custom personas support layouts? Yes. A custom persona's own widget list is its default set, and you can size, order and add to it like any other.
